Welcome To Our Family Tree
This is the family tree for the Bryce/Brice family starting in the county of Hampshire UK,
migrating mainly to London, the Home Counties and the Perth area of Western Australia.
The Bryce name as we know it today changed from (the more commonly known) Brice. Moses (my Great Great Great Grandfather) and his first son (Moses) were Christened Brice in Kings Somborne, Hampshire.
When Moses senior moved to Southampton to become a butler, his remaining 3 children were Christened Bryce. Moses junior used the name Bryce when he married. Whether deliberate or accident, we must bear in mind that as a butler, Moses could read and write.
Moses came from a very small village where most of the residents were agricultural labourers, he may have been the first in his family that could read and write. Maybe a deliberate change to erase the past? The name change occurred between 1806 and 1817.
